Herbert "Bill" Yelton, age 88, of Fork Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.  A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Dee Street and Onald Yelton Salts.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margie Boone, who passed away in 2012; two infant sisters; a sister, Anna Haywood and brothers:  Charlie Salts and Cate Yelton.   Bill was a member of Beans Creek Church of Jesus Christ who loved to trade guns, knives, watches and go to the flea markets.  Bill worked for many years with the Town of Bakersville until his retirement.
Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Iva Lee Yelton; daughters:  Sue Yelton Taylor and husband, Steve, of Bakersville and Rita Yelton Hotchkiss and husband, Alan, of Burnsville; sisters: Marie Barnard and husband, Kyle, of Talbot, TN and Jessie Jones of Rutherfordton; brothers:  Arlie Salts and wife, Gladys, of Yulee, FL and Junior Salts of Bakersville; brother-in-law, Roy Haywood of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren:  Dawn "Tinker" Gurley, Linda Ayers, Veronica Boone, Cindy Boone, Crystal Hughes and Josh Ollis; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great, great-grandchildren; and dear friends who they considered their adopted children:  Andrew Buchanan and Vickie Yelton.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20th at Beans Creek Church of Jesus Christ.  The funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with his Pastor G B Garland, his Associate Pastor David Byrd and Brother Steve Taylor to officiate the services.  A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 21st in the Edwards Cemetery on Fork Mountain.  Pallbearers will be Steve Taylor, Alan Hotchkiss, Justin Gurley, David Gurley, Dwayne Ayers, Josh Ollis and Andrew Buchanan.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice and the nurses at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital for the wonderful care given to Bill and asks memorial donations to be made to either Beans Creek Church of Jesus Christ c/o GB Garland at 66 Melton Branch Road, Bakersville, NC 28705 or to Hospice of the Blue Ridge at 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777 .

Mr. Bill has ended his travel through his earthly life and has begun the ultimate journey with his Heavenly Father and all his loved ones in heaven. His sense of humor and fun loving spirit will be sorely missed. We will think of him fondly as each of our apple trees blossom. Thank you Mr. Bill for sharing your Mountain Wisdom with us. WE have been blessed by your friendship! Love, prayers, and deepest sympathy to all his loving family.
