Music by The Piano Brothers

Dorothy Wilson Burleson, 10 days shy of her 82nd birthday, of the Phipps Creek Community in Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5th, 2017 at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville with her family by her side.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Horace and Gustie Wilson and the wife of the late Claude Burleson, who passed away in 2006.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers:  Herman, Leonard and Mack Wilson.   Dorothy was a member of Banks Creek Baptist Church and was an Avon Representative for many years.  She loved spending time with her family, her cats and loved the outdoors.  Her kids were her life and will always be remembered as a loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters:  Carolyn Rogers and husband, Terry, of Weaverville and Freida Burleson of Nebo; very special granddaughter, Anna Penland and husband, Chris, of Burnsville; and very special great-granddaughter, Paisley Penland; niece and nephew, Jennifer and Michael.  Also surviving are two special feline companions, Precious and Sweet Pea.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Kenneth Crain and Rev. Claude Carroll will officiate.  A private burial will be held in the Wilson Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of the CarePartners Solace Center for the wonderful care given to Dorothy and request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Hospice of Yancey County at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
