Daphne Gail (Butner) Shehan, 55, passed away on August 4th, 2017 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.  She was the daughter of Harold B. Butner and the late Nina Mae Hylemon Butner.  In addition to her mother, Gail was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kent Shehan.  

Gail worked as a nurse for most of her career.  Her nurturing nature extended beyond her workplace as she was always helping those who needed care.  She was an intelligent and talented woman who enjoyed crafts including, but not limited to, making jewelry, crocheting and creating beautiful upholstery work.  She took great joy in cooking, gardening and tending to her flowers. Gail also loved the outdoors and will be remembered as an amazing fisherwoman.  She  was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to have known her.

Gail is survived by her son, Kyle William Dylan Shehan and fiancée, Jacque Wiseman, of Bakersville; daughter, Sydney Shehan of Oregon; fiancé and best friend, Jerry Grindstaff of South Toe;  father,  Harold B. Butner; sister, Donna Lynn Yaccarino and companion, Mike Elliot, of Bakersville; brother, Bryan Butner and companion, Sandra Grindstaff, of Myrtle Beach, SC and her beloved grandson, Brayden Kent Shehan of Bakersville.   Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Gail's Life will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 24th in Halls Chapel Baptist Church.  Rev. Holt Whitson, Jr. will officiate.  

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Yancey Funeral Services to help with final arrangement expenses.

My deepest sympathy goes out to all her family that is suffering this loss. I did have the the pleasure of knowing and working with and being in the same family as Gail. Peace be with you all.

So very sorry to hear about Gail's passing way too soon! She was a very special and loving person and will be missed. So sorry I lost touch with her over the years! She was a wonderful friend in high school. May her family find peace and comfort in God's Love.
