Gail Rosalee Leier Deyton, age 72, of RB Deyton Road tragically left us on August 8th, 2017.  She was born on February 18th, 1945 in Maddock, ND.  In addition to her parents, Jacob and Katherine Leier, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Edward Deyton; siblings:  Judy Mayer, Lucy Peterson, Florence Horner and an infant sister, Mildred Leier; brother-in-law, Joe Leibhan and her beloved dog, Rena.

Gail is survived by her sons: Robert Keith Deyton and Brian Edward Deyton; sisters: Bernice Leibhan, Joe and Evonne Lang  and husband, Dick; brother, Bob Leier and wife, Lee; her partner, Bruce Chereshkoff and grandchildren:  Andrew, Josiah, Eli, Erin, Katherine, Matthias, Susannah and Samuel (who is serving in the US Army in Oklahoma).

Gail dedicated her life to the education of elementary school students at Burnsville Elementary for 32 years.  She volunteered at the Mitchell/Yancey UMC Food Bank that serves families in need for Yancey and Mitchell Counties, along with being a strong supporter of the Catholic Bingo Charity.

Gail was one of the most kind, compassionate, positive, caring and encouraging people that anyone had the privilege to know.  She always had a smile and a joke for every person she came across.  She brought joy to the lives of the people that knew her and inspired love from those which could not be measured by human means.  She was one of the strongest individuals ever and a survivor of hard circumstances.  She bravely battled and won against breast cancer in the past years.

Truly this must have been her time to go home to our Heavenly Father.  Her family and friends are positive that she is still watching over them from heaven with love.  She will be missed so much and couldn't be loved more.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 19th at Covy Rock Freewill Baptist Church.  Rev. Marvin Hensley will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue at 31 Glendale Ave., Asheville, NC 28803.

I will never forget when I gave you my son's hand and trusted him with you. He has never turned loose. The truth you taught us about life will never be forgotten and I hope to always strive to be what I learned from you. You were a warrior, a goddess even and I admired you so. Thank you for lessons learned, for the best friend you gave my son. This world will miss you but we, your friends, will miss you more. Well done Gail, fly high and free with all our love to guide you there.
