Iva Ledford Whitson, 86, of  Bald Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.  A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Effie Metcalf Ledford, and wife of the late Reece Whitson, who passed away in 2012.  In addition to her parents and husband, Iva was preceded in death by her son, Roy Jack Foxx; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Sigmon Whitson; sisters: Louise Maney and Lois Watts and brothers: Spurgeon Ledford, Emerson Ledford, Claude Ledford and Kelly Ledford.  Iva worked at Mohasco for a number of years.  She had a "green thumb" and her hobbies included gardening, sewing, quilting and reading.  Her loves were her family and her pets.

Left to cherish her memories is her daughter, Gail Whitson of Bald Mountain; son, Mack Whitson of Bald Mountain;  grandchildren:  Amanda and Isaac of Burnsville and Eric and Mary of Bakersville; special great grandson, Isaac Levi Whitson; sister, Myrtle Potter of Brevard and loving family friend, Ronald Miller of Burnsville.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 30th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. with the  Rev. Perry Norton and Rev. Denny Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Whitson Family Cemetery.

The family would like to say a special thank you to both Hospice and Smokey Ridge Health and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care and love given to Iva.

Mack,

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. I know it has been a very tough summer for you, with the loss of your wife and mother. It is hard to understand why things happen, especially so close together, but God always has a plan for each of us. It is comforting to know that your loved ones are spending Eternal Life with God and one day too, you will be joined up to spend eternity with your loved ones. May God bless you and give you comfort during this difficult time and also in the days ahead. With love - Terry and Carolyn Rogers
