Junior Staton February 23, 2010

Ronald Joel "Junior" Staton, age 50, of the Grassy Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at his home. He was a son of Ronald and Lorene Beam Staton Sr. of the Kalmia Community in Spruce Pine and the husband of Rita Powell Staton of the home. Junior was a member of the Henson Creek Baptist Church. He loved to be outdoors, hunting and watching the wildlife and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was an employee of Embree-Reed Construction Co. of Charlotte.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife and parents, his sisters, Shirley Cook and husband Jerry of Newland, Kathy Stamey of Nebo and Debbie Franklin and husband Doug of Spruce Pine; one brother, Ken Staton and wife Barbara of Newland; step daughter, Rebecca Buchanan and husband Lee of Newland and step son, Chad Clark of Spruce Pine; step grandchildren, Kesadee Blackburn, Braxton Buchanan and Callee Buchanan.
Funeral services will be 7:30 pm Thursday, February 25, 2010 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services with the Revs. Junior Carver and Ken Staton officiating. Burial will be 3:00 pm Friday in the Calvary Assembly of God Cemetery in Morganton, NC. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Yancey Funeral Services, 378 Charlie Brown Rd., Burnsville, NC 28714, to help with the funeral expenses. Yancey Funeral Services is serving the Staton family.
