Alma Laws, age 76, of the Jacks Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 19th, 2018 at the Yancey House. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Rex and Mary Tolley Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Auburn David Laws, who passed away in 2015. Alma was a member of Petersons Chapel Baptist Church and retired from Baxter Health Care after 13 years of service. She was a hard worker and enjoyed tending to her garden at the Yancey House.
Surviving is her daughters: Lisa M. Shepard and husband, Shawn, of Burnsville and Teresa L. Robinson and husband, John, also of Burnsville; grandchildren: Amanda Robinson of Asheville, Jordan Robinson of Burnsville and Daniel Shepard of Burnsville; brother, Alvin Adkins of Good Springs, TN and special friend, Brenda Bryant of Burnsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 23rd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Denny Wilson and Rev. Donald Whitson will officiate. Burial will follow in the T.B. McCurry Cemetery on Barn Road. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. At other times the family will gather at the home of Lisa and Shawn on Barn Road.
