Alma H. Parker Pate, age 87, of the Crabtree Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Daisy Whitson Hoilman. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John "JC" Parker; infant daughter, Sammy Lou Parker; son, Rocky Parker; sister, Ruby Hoilman and a brother, Fred Hoilman. Alma retired from Baxters after 17 years of service. She was a member of Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church who loved quilting, gardening, her flowers, her chickens and bird and squirrel watching. Later in life she loved to color and do artwork.
Left to cherish her memories is her loving husband of 40 years, Reece Pate; daughter, Alfreda Hughes and husband, Mark, of Bear Creek; son, Robert Parker and wife, Diana, of Crabtree; grandchildren: Melinda Parker, Holly Parker and Clay Parker; step-grandchildren: Richard Dean Pate and Nikki Bates; great-grandchildren: Alyssa Parsons, Roxanna Parker, Hayden Parker, Grayson Parker, Kadence Roberts, Christian Parker and Deysi Parker; step, great-grandchildren: Bo Pate and Devon Frady; sisters: Georgia Bailey of Unicoi, TN and Jerylene B. Durnan of Glenwood Springs, CO and a special friend, Charlene "Shorty" Hoyle of Bear Creek. Several other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Jason Kritz will officiate. Burial will follow in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
