Anita Peterson Tipton, age 67, of the Lily Branch Community, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 9th, 2018 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Maude Bennett Peterson and the wife of the late Donald "Don" Tipton. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Pittman and brother, Kermit Peterson; brothers-in-law, Bill Pittman, Vernon Peterson, Conway Blankenship and Raymond Whitson. Anita attended Lily Branch Baptist Church and was a very talented quilter.
Surviving is her daughters: Amanda Hughes of Buladean, Melissa Tipton of Spruce Pine and Brandie Viola and husband, Frank, of Lily Branch; grandchildren: Justin Hughes, Trenton and Martin Robinson, Destiny, Devin and Kierra Carpenter, and Kailynn and Gabi Viola; sisters: Evelyn Peterson of Green Mountain, Virginia Hightower (Raymond) of Morganton, Alma Jean Blankenship of Telford, TN, Shirley Whitson of Green Mountain and Nancy Adkins (Teddy) of Green Mountain; brothers: Curley Peterson (Norma Faye), Douglas Peterson (Bonnie), Garnie Peterson (Irene), Lincoln Peterson (Brooke) and Randy Peterson, all of Green Mountain; sister-in-law, Nora Hise; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Adam Miller will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
