Bette Jane "Nana" Campbell, age 71, of Johnson City, TN, went home to be with her Lord on May 13th, 2018. She was born April 3rd, 1947 to the late Clarence Albert and Irma Hawks Dean of Newland. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Gragg. She was a native of Avery County but moved to Johnson City, TN in October 1991, when she married her husband, Charles Campbell.
Nana spent many years working as a secretary for GF Company in Linville. In 1988 she was able to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse and was especially proud of her three daughters, who, like their mother, also became caring and compassionate nurses. Nana was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Newland and was currently attending The Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN. She enjoyed many things such as woodworking, working with her flowers, making jewelry, and working puzzles. The thing she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband of 26 years, Charles, she leaves behind to cherish her memory her three daughters: Charlene Laws and significant other, Michael Carpenter, of Newland, Melissa Gragg of Newland and Jennifer Ratzloff and husband, Daniel, of Concord; sister, Dottie Webster of Newland; two brothers: Eddie Dean and wife, Gail, of Newland and Billy Dean and wife, Carol, also of Newland; grandchildren: Tyler Laws, Bobby, Kimberly, Matthew and Kambrey Gragg, Mollie Arbogast and her husband, Nick, Logan Peek, Sophie, Lane, Seth and Tucker Ratzloff; great-grandchildren: Cecily Gragg, Caevin and Laeton Arbogast and a brother-in-law, Larry Campbell of Johnson City, TN. Several nieces, nephews and special friends: Jack and Carlotta Dykes of Johnson City, TN.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16th at First Baptist Church of Newland. Pastor Bill Jones, Rev. Jack Dykes and Rev. Larry Chase will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church of Jesus Christ Cemetery on White Pine Road. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the church.
