Bill Hensley, 90, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7th, 2020 at his home on Graceland Drive surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Charles Rexter "Rex" and Laura Silvers Hensley. Bill was a builder and concrete finisher. He started the first concrete business in Yancey County. Bill was well known for dowsing wells for anyone that asked. He was preceded in death by brothers: Bob and Ernest Hensley; sisters: Lucy Jones, Princie White, Ethel Tipton, Irene Dale, Juanita McIntosh, Hazel Sisk, Maphra Briggs and Maxine Ballew.
Bill was a well-known, loving husband, daddy, poppy, great-grandfather and a very special person who was loved by all. He had a loving-giving heart with a multitude of special friends.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Grace Brown Hensley. Bill was the proud daddy of his six children: Barbara Hoffman and husband, Mike, of Burnsville, Sheila Ethridge and husband, Jeff, of Marion, Danny Hensley and wife, Linda, Steve Hensely and wife, Glenda, Beverly Rathburn and husband, Ron and Tim Hensley and friend, Liza Fox, all of Burnsville. He was the proud poppy of nine grandchildren: Charlene Nygren and husband, Eddie, of Hendersonville, Gary Williams and wife, Tangi, of Burnsville, Alicia Allen and special friend, Lee Lattimore and Nathan Allen and special friend, Jesse Greene , all of Marion, Kim Ricky and special friend, Joe Penland, Ashley Phillips and husband, Andy, Crystal Boone and husband, Josh, all of Burnsville, Shane Rathburn of New Brittan, CT and Kylie Hoffman Hensley of Burnsville; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Hensley of Burnsville and brother-in-law, Archie Ballew. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
To honor his celebration of life, funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 10th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Robert Norris, Rev. Gary Greene and Rev. Andy Phillips will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the funeral services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Hunter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Gary Williams, Nathan Allen, Shane Rathburn, Gene McIntosh, Dwight McIntosh, Larry McIntosh, Joe Penland and John Stallings.
