Billy Joe Silver, age 76, of the Jacks Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 2nd, 2018 at Mission Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late J.D. and Bessie Silvers Silver. Billy was a sheet metal mechanic for Laughrun Heating and Air and retired after 44 years of dedicated service. He was a former volunteer firefighter and EMT, and was one of the graduates of the very first EMS class of Yancey County. Billy was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and also attended Pilgrims Chapel Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved deer and turkey hunting.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 52 years, Lillian Briggs Silver; special family and friends, Christy Hill, Jackie and Charlene Briggs, Lil' Max Fox and Terry Fox. Several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Billy will be held on Tuesday, March 6th at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Russell Hughes and Rev. Danny Silvers will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Private Interment will be at Briggs Family Cemetery.
