Bobby Bennett, age 70, of Poplar, passed away on Saturday, August 10th, 2019 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of Lee Bennett of Poplar and the late Ruth Bennett. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Hughes. Bobby was a US Veteran who loved his family and grandchildren. He was a NASCAR fan, loved working on classic cars and will be remembered as a hard worker.
Surviving in addition to his father, Lee Bennett, is his loving wife of 51 years, Jean Peterson Bennett; daughter, Renee Gibbs and husband, Brian, of Burnsville; granddaughter, Brandie Griffith and Dillon Ledbetter of Mars Hill; grandson, Blake Griffith and Rachel Metcalf of Burnsville; great-grandchildren: Kinlee Ledbetter, Logan Metcalf and one on the way; brother-in-law, Leonard Peterson of Rutherford College; sister-in-law, Sharon Barnett of Pigeon Roost and his best buddy, Anton Troxell.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Jerry Shelton and Rev. David Garland will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. Military graveside honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14th in the Hughes Cemetery at Huntdale conducted by the Sgt. E. L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V.
