Clarence Harrison, age 86, of White Oak Road in the South Toe Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9th, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Eugene and Viola Self Harrison. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Harrison Silvers, who passed away in 2003, four brothers and a sister. Clarence was a US Army Veteran, who attended Harvard School in the South Toe area growing up and jokingly like to tell others he attended "Harvard". He was an electrician and maintenance supervisor with the Yancey County School System for many years.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Genevieve Simmons Harrison; daughters: Sherry Silver and husband, Kenny, of Bakersville and Tina Little and husband, Willie, of Hickory; a sister, Glenda King and husband, Gene, of Rutherfordton; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Several other extended family members also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14th in the Simmons Family Cemetery on Rock Creek with military honors conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph, Chapter #57 D.A.V. Rev. Charles Carroll will officiate.
