"Bo" Danny Ollis, age 70, of Elk Park, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. A native of Avery County, he was the son of the late Devoe "Bo" and Sarah Thomas Ollis. In addition to his parents, Bo was also preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Ollis.
Bo was a US Navy Veteran and proudly served our country during two tours in Vietnam. He was a skilled carpenter and worked in construction for most of his life. Bo loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed growing hanging baskets of petunias in his greenhouses, growing blackberries and keeping bees. He loved to tell jokes and always had a smile on his face. Bo will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 44 years, Brenda Ollis; son, Eric Ollis and his wife, Ruth; daughter, Jeannie Ollis; and grandchildren: Jillian and Nathan Painter and Bode and Sydney Ollis. Several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at Banner Elk Seventh Day Adventist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Ross Knight officiating. Burial with will follow at Cranberry Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Avery County V.F.W. Pat Ray Post 4286. Pallbearers will be Eric Ollis, Steve Ramsey, Jacob Ramsey, Lucas Ramsey, Jamie Willis, Russell Norman, Jake Norman and Jeremiah Key. Nathan Painter will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
