Dean Albert Wright, age 56, of Minneapolis, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3rd, 2018. A native of Avery County, he was the youngest of ten children to the late Ira and Ethel Calhoun Wright. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Pauline Wallace and Shelby Miller and brothers: Buddy Wright, Clayton Wright and Sherrill Wright. Dean was a welder and machinist with Avery Machine and Welding for over 35 years, who enjoyed and took great pride in his work. He loved NASCAR, fishing, riding four-wheelers and camping but his greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughter, McKenna.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 37 years, Penny Ward Wright; daughter, Dena Wright and fiancé, Don Garland, of Minneapolis; son, LeRoy Wright and wife, Lynn Wright, of Elk Park; his granddaughter and his pride and joy, McKenna Wright; sisters: Vernal Hartsoe and husband, Troy, of Newton, Roma Richards and husband, James, of Conover and Mildred Freeman and husband, James, of Powder Mill; brother, Kenneth Wright and wife, Tabitha, of Elk Park and two special friends: Jim Erwin and Steve Carpenter. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 6th in The Church of Jesus Christ of Newland. Pastor Dave Atkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fall Branch Family Cemetery on their property. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.
