Doris Willis, age 63, of Cane River, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 7th, 2018 at CarePartners Solace Center. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Sally Street. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Willis who passed away in 2001; sister, Opal Hollifield; brother, James Street and sister-in-law, Gracie Street. Doris loved her pets and all the animals at the Yancey County Humane Society - they were her life.
Left to cherish her memories is her son, John Tipton (Lisa) of Burnsville; daughter, Darlene Jones (Bill) of Possum Trot; grandchildren: Rebecca Jones, Sarah Jones and Ethan Jones all of Burnsville; great-grandchildren: Cayden and Iris; siblings: Kenneth Street (Verna Lee) of Johnson City, Bud Street (Shelby) of Louisburg, June Street (Patsy) of Bakersville, Floyd Street of Spruce Pine, Ronnie Street (Shelby) of Bakersville and Wayne Street (Dianne) also of Bakersville and two best friends: April and Dayton Scalf of Johnson City, TN, who provided much love and support during her sickness. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 11th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Marvin Hensley and Rev. Bruce Cannon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her beloved friends and coworkers from the Yancey County Humane Society. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
