Eda B. Smith, 84, of South Toe, died September 8, 2018 at Mountain Manor Assisted Living. Born in Staten Island, NY, she was the daughter of Robert Gustave Buschatzky and Marie Louise May. She attended Curtis High School on Staten Island; and held a B.S. in Comparative Literature, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Library Science, from Hunter College. She worked as a librarian for the New York Public Library, and as a medical copy-editor and film script editor, before becoming a full-time home-maker, mother, and step-mother.
Although a part-time resident since 1977, Eda moved to Yancey County full-time in 1988 with her husband.
Eda was a life-long lover of literature and music, and lent her own voice to its pursuit whenever she had the opportunity.
Eda is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald W. Smith, and step-son, Anthony W. Smith. Surviving is her son, Professor Colin K. Smith of Clarkston, GA.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Celo Friends Quaker Meeting, 70 Meeting House Ln, Burnsville, NC 28714.
