Elizabeth Anglin McKinney, age 90, of the Grassy Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 11th, 2019. She was born in the Cane River Community of Yancey County to the late Mary Geneva Ray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie McKinney who passed away in 2015; sister, Katherine Rice and brother, Frank Fox. Elizabeth was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and always participated in the Singing Christmas Tree. She was a member of the Eastern Star and had many musical talents playing multiple instruments to include the piano, organ, dulcimer, guitar and many others. Elizabeth loved flowers, gardening and working outdoors.
Surviving is her step-son, Tim McKinney and wife, Julie, of Marion; grandson, Aaron McKinney of Marion; sister, Evelyn Anderson of Mars Hill; brother, Robert Fox and wife, Betty, of Sterling Heights, MI and a special niece, Lisa Sessions of Mars Hill. Many other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 15th in Grassy Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Nathan Silver and Rev. Gene Self will officiate. Burial will follow in Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the funeral services at the church.
