Eula Peterson Laws, of Burnsville, departed this life at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital Thursday, June 7th, 2018. She was born March 13, 1916 to the late James and Alice Honeycutt Peterson in Mitchell County. She had been a resident of Yancey County for the past 50 years and a resident of the Yancey House for the past 9 years. In addition to her parents Mrs. Laws was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack J. Laws, who passed away in 1983; sisters: Birdie Pate, Geneva Presnell, Evelyn Swanner and Carrie Elrod and brothers: Roy, Briscoe, Carl, Phin and Raymond Peterson. Mrs. Laws was a lifelong member of Huntdale Union Church. She was a very devoted wife and mother who always worried about others more than herself. "Thanks, Mom, for all the good meals you fixed us and all the washing and ironing you did for Dad and me. Mom, we will dearly miss you! I love you Mom!"
Left to cherish her memories is her son, Jerry Laws and his wife, Brenda; special step-granddaughter, Christy Wilson and husband, Stuart; and special friend, Glenna Taylor who visited her every week, all of Burnsville; sister, Pansy Hagie and brother, Park Peterson. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 10th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Terry Allen and Rev. Tommy Murphy will officiate. Pallbearers will be Andy Buchanan, Terry Peterson, Dallas K. Peterson, Roddy Pate, Jim Hagie and Bryan Peterson. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Private burial will be at the McCracken Cemetery on Meadow Rd. At other times the family will be at the home of Jerry and Brenda Laws.
