J. E. Wilson
J. E. Wilson, age 92, of the Cattail Creek Community, so peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 21st, 2019 at Mission Hospitals Heart Tower. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Alex and Florence Sturgill Wilson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Russell Wilson and three brothers: Ralph, Geter, and Arthur Wilson. J. E. was a U.S. Navy Veteran, served over two years with the Army Reserves, and later worked with the Civil Air Patrol at Mountain Wilderness. He was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church, where he served as the oldest Deacon, former Sunday School Superintendent, and loved working with the youth at Bible School. His interests include gardening, hunting, fishing, and splitting wood.
Surviving is his loving wife of 71 years, Amaryllis Hutchins Wilson; son, Dwight Wilson (Michelle) of Live Oak, FL; grandchildren; Steven Wilson of Douglasville, GA and Courtney Wilson of Winston Salem; brothers: Robert Wilson of South Toe, Willard Wilson (Ann) of Swannanoa, Frank Wilson (Mary Emilie) of Prices Creek, and David Wilson (Darlene) of Lawton, OK; sisters: Anna Kate Cook of Connelly Springs, and Barbara Watts (Bobby) of Limestone, TN; sister-in-law, Nina Wilson of Pensacola. Several other extended family members also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 25th in Laurel Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Andy Phillips and Rev. Ray Strickland will officiate. Burial will follow in the Penland Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Sgt. E. L. Randolph Chapter #57, DAV. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
