Jack McCanless, age 89, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 26th, 2018 at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Landon and Belle Bodford McCanless. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Griggs; sister, Gladys McCanless and a brother, Garrett "Patty" McCanless. Jack was a member of Windom United Methodist Church. He worked as a machinist with American Thread Company, retiring after a 39 year career. Jack was always on the go and loved to fish, watch trains and have engaging conversations.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Helen Taylor McCanless; daughter, Deana Caudle and husband, Lance, of Austin, TX and a sister, Dorothy Harris of Burnsville. Three nieces also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31st in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Ken Anderson and Rev. Chad Wise will officiate and music will provided by A.J. and Carolyn Taylor. Burial will follow in the Pete Young Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 pm. prior to the services at the funeral home.
