Kennith Hylemon, age 90, of the Bald Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 26th, 2018. He passed at home surrounded by his wife and children after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a Master Sargent in the US Army Corp of Engineers who received a permanent rank signed by President Harry Truman. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Welch & Core Construction in West Springfield, Mass. In 1985 he and his wife Dottie returned home to Burnsville.
He was a hard-working man who loved his family and friends and enjoyed the outdoors as well as his frequent trips to town with his brothers.
Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Zabik Hylemon; two daughters: Debra Austin and husband, Mike, of Candler, NC, and Nancy Wille and husband, Jim, of Westbrook, CT; his son, Michael Hylemon and his wife, Jennifer, of So. Hadley, Mass; two brothers: Hoyle and Frank; sisters: Octavia Austin and Mary Lea Hardin as well as 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service in honor of Kennith will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Reverend Jerry Shelton of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church will officiate.
