- About Us
Larry Honeycutt, age 66, of Poplar, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Smoky Ridge surrounded by his family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Burgin and Evelyn Peterson Honeycutt. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Valerie Miller Honeycutt, who passed away in 2012. Larry was a very talented musician and could play any instrument he picked up. He loved singing and made records, traveled and sang on the radio with his brothers, as well as with the Faithway Quartet. Larry and his daughter, Shelly, also sang together often in church. Larry was an excellent carpenter and taught woodworking at Mayland Community College for several years and was also a former First Responder/EMT with Mitchell County. He also enjoyed collecting and trading various electronics. Larry loved spending time with his family, and every night he and his son, Joe, could be found reading the Bible together.
Left to cherish his memories are his children: Shelly Ledford and her husband, Scott, of Spruce Pine and son and loving caregiver, Joe Honeycutt of the home; grandchildren: Whitney, Kelly and Luke Ledford; siblings: Sandra Barnett and husband, Embert, of Tipton Hill, Michael Honeycutt and wife, Sam, of Unicoi, TN, Gerald Honeycutt and wife, Donna, of Burnsville, Randall Honeycutt and wife, Teresa of Brushy Creek, and Roger Honeycutt and wife, Sharon of Burnsville; and uncle, Johnny Honeycutt and wife, Penny, of Poplar. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Per Larry's request, the family will hold a private service which will be at a later date.
