Larry Peterson, age 70, of the Big Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on March 17th, 2018 at his home while surrounded by the love of his family. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Luther and Disa Bennett Peterson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, MacArthur Peterson.
Larry attended Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church. He worked as a carpenter for his entire life, taking great pride in his building. He enjoyed antiques cars, basketball, hunting and gardening. Larry also adored being a grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Yvonne Adkins Peterson; his children: Nick Peterson (Karen) of Green Mountain, Shalon Tapp (Brad) of Erwin, TN and Reanna Effler (Sammy) of Erwin, TN; grandchildren: Zeb and Alex Peterson, Riley and Drew Tapp and Ashton and Corbin Effler; siblings: R. L. Peterson (Joyce) of Pennsylvania, Willard Peterson of Pennsylvania, Calvin Peterson (Pat) of Erwin, TN, Jim Peterson (Joanne) of Erwin, TN, Dayton Peterson (Kathy) of Erwin, TN, J.C. Peterson (Kay) of Poplar, Bratsy Miller of Erwin, TN and Sherrill Peterson (Tammy) of Erwin, TN. Many nieces, nephews and close friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 23rd, at Big Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Pastor Adam Miller, Rev. Marvin Hensley and Rev. Scott McIntosh will officiate. Burial will follow at the Peterson Homestead Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22nd, at Yancey Funeral Services.
