Leacil Webb, age 91, of Burnsville, closed his eyes on earth and opened them in Heaven, his eternal home, on Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 at Pisgah Manor in Candler. Leacil was born in Mitchell County on October 22, 1927 to the late Jeter and Vola Johnson Webb. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Betty Gardner Webb; daughter, Terri M. Webb; brother, Jim Webb; sister, Katrinka Webb Doan; son-in-law, Michael Reid; and brother-in-law, John Buckner. Leacil was a US Navy Veteran and proudly served our country during World War II with the Naval Seabees. After the war, he had many jobs before finally settling at Thurston Motor Lines in Charlotte, from which he retired after 24 years of dedicated service. Leacil also lived in Marion for several years before returning to Yancey County in 1993. He loved being back home in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Leacil enjoyed reminiscing about growing up in Yancey County on his family farm in the 1930s and 40s and also enjoyed sharing his WWII stories . He was a skilled mechanic and repaired all types of cars and was especially versed in Subaru repair. He was a talented woodworker and created many beautiful accent pieces. Leacil was also a member of Bald Creek Lodge #397 A.F. & A. M. Leacil was well loved by his family and his many caregivers at Pisgah Manor and CarePartners Hospice. We were blessed beyond measure to have Leacil in our lives. He now has a "new beginning" and this time, it is eternal.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters: Alice Witt (Jim) of Burnsville and Gail Reid of Canton, GA; son, Joe Leacil Webb (Sheila) of Hilton Head, SC; six grandchildren: Michelle Ewald (Eric) of GA, Jamie Witt (Kelly) MI, Jasen Witt (Heather) of MI, Julie Kirk (Matt) of GA, Chelsea Webb of OH, and Joe Webb (Isis) of TX; 19 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Webb (Mary Ruth) of Burnsville; sisters: Lucille Webb (Morris) of Chesterton, IN, Peggy Buckner of Burnsville, and Polly Austin (Stokes) of Burnsville; and brother-in-law, David Doan, Jr. of Asheville. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2nd, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Jerry Shelton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery at Horton Hill with Military Honors conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V. Pallbearers will be Kendall Doan, Anthony Styles, Zachary Styles, B.J. Webb, Barry Austin and Jamie Witt.
