Lola Winters, age 90, of the Crabtree Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29th, 2019 at the Yancey House. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late John and Katherine Grindstaff and the wife of the late Bob Winters. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Fleta Sue Whitson and three brothers: Joe, Bob and John Grindstaff, Jr. Lola worked for many years at Ellens Knitting Mill and later retired from Baxters. She was a founding member of Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church who loved being outdoors and will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are two sons: Kenneth Winters and wife, Charmagne, of Crabtree and Gary Winters and wife, Shelby, of Winston Salem; son-in-law, Gary Whitson of Estatoe; sister, Pauline Chrisawn of Crabtree; grandchildren: Tracy Winters, Monica Davis, Melissa Whitson, Brian Whitson and Amber Winters; several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. Many other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. David Garland will officiate. Burial will follow in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
