Martha Moore Bennett, age 92, of Avery's Creek, went home to be with the Lord on March 16th, 2018 at her residence surrounded by the love of her family. A native of Halifax County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Phillip St. John and Mary Binford Sledge Moore and wife of the late Frank West Bennett who passed way in 2016. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Bennett; grandsons: Blake Bennett and Shawn Bennett and siblings: Phillip St. John Moore, Jr., Mary Elizabeth Fairweather, John Campbell Moore and Whitfield Moore.
Martha was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Asheville since 1952. After graduating from Weldon High School, she completed the one year Commercial Business course at University of North Carolina - Greensboro. Martha attended the College of William and Mary Norfolk Division and graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in 1949. After college she married Frank, in 1950. Martha was a long time member of the Phillip Ludwell Chapter of the Colonial Dames and Unaka Chapter of Daughters of American Colonists. She and Frank were also members of Western Carolina Chapter of the St. Andrews Society.
Martha is survived by her sons: Frank W. Bennett (Connie) of Johnson City, TN, Rieley B. Bennett (Eve) of Arden and Stuart S. Bennett (Linda) also of Arden; daughter-in-law, Eve Bennett of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20th at the Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher, NC. Rev. Dale Banks and TJ Robinson will officiate.
