Merrium Clark, age 73, of Crossnore, whose soul has gone to be with Jesus, passed away on Sunday, December 3rd, 2017 at her home. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". A native of Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Francalene Shomaker Fortune (Frank). Merrium was an active member for over 53 years of First Baptist Church Crossnore, where she taught both children and young adults. Her education included Banner Elk Elementary for eight years, a graduate of Cranberry High School, and graduate of South Eastern Beauty College in Charlotte, NC. Upon her graduation from college, she was immediately employed with Florence Pittman, where she worked for several years, and then with Jeannie Williamson for forty-four years until her retirement. Upon retirement, she found her calling from the Lord, where she loved working a couple of days per week with Roan Highlands Nursing Center, now the Waters of Roan Highlands.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, F. Douglas Clark; son, Matt Clark and wife, Sherry, of Spruce Pine; brother, Tony Franklin and wife, Judy, of Newland; granddaughter, Kayla Ross and husband, Mark, of Clyde and two great-grandchildren: Mackenna and Joel Ross.
A memorial service to celebrate Merrium's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th at First Baptist Church Crossnore. Dr. Phil Murdock will officiate. A time of fellowship will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
