Mildred Austin, age 87, of the Indian Creek Community, went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Mack and Ellen McPeters Austin. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Rodney Brian Hughes; 7 sisters and 6 brothers. She was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. Mildred was a selfless person who loved her family, was a lot of fun and was a mother to all.
Surviving is her loving husband of 74 years, Bruce Austin; daughters: Peggy Hughes and husband, Lloyd, of Hickory and Sharon Randolph and husband, W.B., of Burnsville; grandchildren: Maria Teague (David), Sara Niedenthal (Brant) and Matthew Randolph; great-grandchildren: Brian Teague, Christina Teague, Lila Niedenthal and Claire Niedenthal; sisters: Lois, Gelene, Lily and Libby and a brother, Jack. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 26th at Indian Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Trent McKeehan and Rev. Philip Garland will officiate. Private burial will be held at a later date.
