Palma Fern McCurry Covington, age 81, of Burnsville, formerly of Hickory, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 11th, 2018 at St. Josephs Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Grant and Lena Edwards McCurry and the wife of the late Theodore "Ted" Covington who passed away in 2009. She was also preceded in death by three infant brothers: Larry, Stanley and Junior McCurry and a nephew, Caleb McCurry. Pam loved her flower garden, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family.
Surviving is her daughter, Sherry Williams and husband, Thomas "Tommy", of Murrells Inlet, SC; son, Rodney Covington and wife, Christine, of Georgetown, SC; grandchildren: Angie Wilson, Rodney Wilson, Cody Covington, Courtney Covington, Brandon Covington and Felicia Keeling; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Iardella and husband, Walter, of Hickory, Iris Fox also of Hickory, Linda King of Burnsville, Ella Fox and husband, Larry, of Mars Hill and Donna Robinson and husband, Jesse, of Jacks Creek; brothers: Wayne McCurry and wife, Nina, of Fort Mills, SC, Johnny McCurry and wife, Ruby, of Burnsville and David McCurry and wife, Ramona, also of Burnsville. Several nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 15th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Denny Wilson and Rev. Austin Elkins will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Mal McCurry Cemetery.
