Paul Wayne Hughes, age 69, of Griffith Mine Road in the Plum Branch Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 10th, 2019 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Zeb and Sina Stiles Hughes. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Ola Mae Woody and Maude Etta Hughes; brothers: James and Billy Hughes and three grandchildren: Suzanna, Kerwin, and Kylan Hughes. Paul was owner and operator of Hughes Plumbing, who loved his game chickens, his horses, animals in general, but mostly his family and his grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Susie Hughes; children: Daniel Hughes and wife, Rachel, of Blue Rock, Rickey Hughes of Griffith Mine Road, Timothy Hughes and wife, Crystal, of Burnsville and Matthew Hughes and wife, Ashley, of Marion; daughter, Marietta Wiseman and husband, David, of Spruce Pine; grandchildren: Chastity Hughes, Morgan Hughes, Abigail Hughes, Katherine Hughes, Haylee Hughes, Brianna Hughes, Courtnee Hughes, Grayson Hughes, Alyssa Hughes, Lakeisha McKinney and husband, Caleb, Adrian Hughes and Madison Hughes; brother, Roger Hughes of Spruce Pine and sisters: Polly Lane and husband, Rev. Ray Lane, of Burnsville, Joyce Buchanan of Johnson City, TN and Gene Ray of the Concord Community. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with Brother Jack Jones to officiate. Private burial will be in the Jim Riddle Cemetery.
