Ridge Hamblen, age 77, of Tipton Hill, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at his home while surrounded by the love of his family. Ridge was born in Summit, NJ to the late Breckenridge and Bertha Burt Browne Hamblen. Ridge believed in our Lord and Savior and was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. An internationally educated man and jack of all trades, Ridge enjoyed many professions, including a twenty two year career as a Patrolman and Detective for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Florida and, later in life, as a Security Officer at Mountain Air. He enjoyed football and was also a member of The Navigators. Ridge was a talented woodworker and his craftsmanship of a handmade, oak wagon earned him the First Place Blue Ribbon at the Florida State Fair.
Ridge is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Hamblen; daughters: Kimberley Elliott and her husband, Joshua, of Springfield, VA and Meredith Hamblen and her husband, Mark Burzenki, of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren: Hannah, Joshua, Helen and Emma Elliott; sister, Carla White and her husband, Jim, of France; and brother, Michael Weis of Hawaii.
The family will hold a celebration of Ridge's Life at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 29th in Brummetts Creek Church of the Brethren. Ridge will be interred at Tipton Griffith Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
