Robert Bruce Dellinger, age 82, of Bell Street in Spruce Pine, passed away on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at the Brian Center. A native of Bakersville, he was one of thirteen children to the late Virgil and Lura Cragg Dellinger. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, five brothers and a step-son, David Bell, who passed away in 2015. Bruce loved being a night watchman for Bud Phillips and many other establishments. He also enjoyed hunting, staying busy, singing with his brothers and telling tales.
Surviving is his loving wife of 18 years, Mildred Bell Dellinger; sister, Grace Buchanan of Icard; brothers: Herbert Dellinger of Virginia and Roger and Ray Dellinger both of Bakersville and step-daughters: Teresa Engebretsen and husband, Steve, of Durham and Cindy and Marsha Bell both of Spruce Pine. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 3rd at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Clay Dale will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Inurnment will be held in Cane Creek Cemetery in the spring.
The family requests memorial donations be made to either the church, Gideons International, Brian Center of Spruce Pine or the Mitchell House.
