Sally Kreidler Griffith, 90, died peacefully at home in Celo, NC, surrounded by family, on August 8, 2018. Sally was born on April 2, 1928, and grew up in Birmingham, Michigan. She was the daughter of Charles and Hazel Kreidler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Griffith; her son, Denny Griffith, and her brother, Bill Kreidler.
Sally and Floyd were college sweethearts at Ohio Wesleyan. They spent the early years of their marriage on Floyd’s family farm in Delaware, Ohio. They then moved to Michigan, first back to Birmingham then to Belleville, where Sally taught kindergarten for many years. Floyd and Sally retired in N.C. They enjoyed several years at Fearrington in Pittsboro, then after Floyd’s passing Sally chose Highland Farms in Black Mountain and Celo to be her homes.
Sally approached life with appreciation and optimism. As a teacher she shared her enthusiasm and love with her “little people.” A friend once described her by saying that “if she were to enter a dark room, her presence would fill it with light without ever touching a switch.” She endeared herself to all who knew her, teaching us to appreciate every day and to treat all people with love and compassion.
She is survived by her son, Tom Griffith (Beth) of Seattle; daughter, Annie Barrus (Gib) of Celo; daughter-in-law, Beth Fisher of Columbus, OH; three grandsons: Blake Fisher (Ashton) of Raleigh, Tyler Griffith of San Francisco and Zachary Griffith of Seattle; two granddaughters: Gracie Barrus of Celo and Lucia Parker (Clay) of Celo; and two great- grandsons: Hayden Tremane Parker and Grayson Floyd Parker of Celo.
The family would like to thank the staff at Givens Highland Farms, Yancey House, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Four Seasons Hospice and Yancey Hospice. Sally received such kind care.
