Sharon Elliott Haney, age 65, of Colberts Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 8th, 2017 at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Hobart and Betty Jean Elliott and the wife of the late Jerry Melvin Haney, who passed away in 2002. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Mike Elliott. Sharon will always be remembered as a "cut-up" who loved to read, do word search puzzles, and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a CNA for many years and was always helping others. She was also a proud member of Old Path Church.
Left to cherish her memories are her two sons: Tony Gibson of Hickory and Mark Haney and wife, Tina, of Clear Creek; step-son, Scott Haney of South Toe and step-daughter, Melanie Ballew and husband, James, also of South Toe; grandchildren: Preston Schronce, Alicia Hinson, Joshua Stafford, Halie Horney, Bethany Ballew, Ethan Ballew, Jerry Haney, Kalie Ollis and Zack Davis; great-grandchildren: William Hinson, Devon Hinson, Ryliegh Davis, Braddock Davis, Georgia Ollis and Emory Ollis; sisters: Shelley McMahan of South Toe, Lois Dugger and husband, Roger, of Laurel Bloomery, TN and Kathy Gibson and husband, Gene, of Hickory; brother, Hobart "Buck" Elliott of Lincolnton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 9th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Matthew Hopson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the services. A private burial will be held in the Autrey Cemetery at South Estatoe Baptist Church.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice of Yancey County for the wonderful care given to Sharon.
