Vestina “Toots” (Gouge) Hoyle, 87, of Bakersville, gained her angel wings on Wednesday, September 25. She had been in declining health with a brief but consuming illness. Her devoted husband, Robert, was at her side during her passing.
Vestina was preceded in death by Edgar (Dick) Gouge, parents Frank and Ella Grindstaff, 5 brothers, 1 granddaughter, and 1 step-daughter.
Vestina was born in Gastonia, NC and lived in Mitchell county until she and her husband, Dick, moved to Georgia for job opportunities in 1963. They left Georgia in 1979 after their children were grown to help care for their elderly parents. Upon returning to NC, she was employed at OMC until her retirement.
Vestina and Robert married in 2004 and spent all their time together relaxing at home or taking day trips and excursions whenever possible. Life was their adventure and a gift from the Good Lord.
Vestina is survived by her husband, Robert, daughters Kay Perez (Vicente) and Janice Hoilman (Lee), 3 step daughters (Robert Hoyle), 2 granddaughters and 5 great grandchildren(Edgar Gouge) 10 step-grandchildren and 12 step-greatgrandchildren.
Services will be handled by Yancey Funeral Service on Saturday at Snow Creek Bapt church at 2:30pm with burial at Lily Branch Bapt immediately following. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
