William "Bobby" Doane

            William "Bobby" Doane, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 2nd, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Horace and Frances McMahan Doane. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Sam Doane.  Bobby was a Christian man that loved his family dearly.

            Surviving is his loving wife of 24 years, Ruth Doane of Mine Branch; daughter; Lisa Smith and husband, Walt, of Salisbury; son; Russell Doane and wife, Kim, of High point; step-daughter: Teressa Neill and husband, Brett, of Burnsville; step-son; Bobby Briggs and wife, Mary Beth, of Charlotte; sister: Verlyn Geouge and husband, Dean, of Kooskia, Idaho; grandchildren: Daniel Sexton, Katie Sexton, Olivia Doane, Gabrielle Neill, Daniel Briggs and wife, Marivic, Nycole Fitt and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren: Nathaniel, Cassandera, Daylen and Parker.  Several other extended family members also survive.

            Funeral Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6th, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Service.  Rev. Toby Crowder, Rev. Chad Wise, and Rev. Randall Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 p.m. prior to the service.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Will Young Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Randy Pitman, Sid Pitman, Daniel Briggs, Jason Fitt, Nathaniel Fitt, and Richie Crowder.

            The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Blue Ridge Regional Hospital for the compassionate and loving care provided to Bobby.  In addition, a very special thank you to the Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for the wonderful care and support given and request memorial donations be made to them at 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
