William Dennis "Bill" Long, age 59, of the South Toe Community, passed away on Tuesday, May 1st, 2018 at St. Josephs Campus. A native of Burke County, he was a resident of Yancey County most of his life. Bill was a son of the late William and Pauline Huskins Long. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Linda Kay Long and Diane Long; grandparents: William and Thelma Biggerstaff Long and Milton Harvey and Dora "Big Mama" Williams Huskins. Bill joined Fairview Baptist Church as a young boy. He traveled many places as an industrial electrician and made many lifelong friends along his journeys. He was currently a 10 year employee of Crowder Construction based in Charlotte. In his spare time he enjoyed turkey hunting and gardening. Bill will always be remembered as a wonderful husband and father.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 40 years, Virginia "Jennie" Blevins Long; daughter, Lee Ann Long of the home; brother, Sam Long and wife, Cheryl, of Lincolnton; father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Phyllis Blevins of Seven Mile Ridge; brother-in-law, Randall Blevins and Brad Duncan of Spruce Pine and nephew, R. John Simmons of Spruce Pine. Several other extended family members also survive as well as his work family at Crowder Construction.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5th in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Forrest Westall will officiate.
